WHO
W.V. Raman is a former Indian cricketer who made his mark as an all rounder in the inaugural Under-15 tournament of the BCCI in the 1979-80. He gradually scaled the ladder through the ranks as a left arm spinner and a useful batter. He made his debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji trophy at the age of 17 and performed consistently over the next few years. These performances earned him the India cap in 1988 when he was 22 years of age. He made his debut in the “Hirwani Test” against West Indies in Jan 1988 and his international cricket career spanned till 1996-97. He retired from active cricket in the 1999-2000 season.
Post retirement, he made his mark as a coach, columnist, and analyst. He made a remarkable impact as the coach of the Indian women’s team when he guided them to the first final of the T20 World Cup in 2020. He took to writing books in recent times and he made a significant debut as an author in 2020 with “The Winning Sixer”, a book that focused on leadership and life lessons. Then he followed up with “The Lords of Wankhede” in 2023. Currently, he is keeping his involvement with the game going as a commentator.
